I want to take some time to do quick check in to see how I’m progressing on my 2018 goals and to tweak them as necessary. Keeping my fingers crossed that I’m at the high end of the bell curve. Gotta get that 5 star rating to get promoted 🙂
- Design my professional blog. Grade A+. I’m really proud of myself for buying a domain name and professional theme to design my blog. I’m happy with the current design and will continue enhance it. Once I’m back from my big event, I plan to make good on my promise to start a newsletter so I can grow my readership. Though I am a little hesitant given the personal content of the blog. Monetizing my blog and making some dough… I have to research that a little more. I am really impressed with myself for figuring out WordPress and being consistent in creating content every month. I think I’m finally starting to develop my voice.
- Finish my second Paint by Numbers painting. Grade A. I’ve made quite a bit of progress on my painting. I’ll say I’m 1/3 of the way done and have been painting fairly regularly. For this I’m giving myself an A for Awesomeness!
- Have a positive attitude about new adventures. Grade B. In the last 2 months I’ve moved across the country, started a new job, and am about to experience one of the biggest changes in my life. All of this has taken quite a mental toll but I’ve also taken these changes in stride. Meditation has helped me to not react to every negative thought I have and to control my reaction to unexpected outcomes and things that don’t go my way. Having a positive attitude is a work in progress. I take 2 steps forwards and 1 step back every few days.
- Continue meditating, being grateful for people and experiences in my life, and working on my passion projects. Grade B+. I’ve meditated pretty regularly and I’m really proud of that. I’ve missed a day or two here and there but that’s okay. I’m not perfect and the goal isn’t to have a long run streak. The goal is to train the mind. What I need to work on some more is training my mind to not compare myself to others. LinkedIn has replaced Facebook for me and its I’ve started to waste time perusing LinkedIn profiles that serve me no purpose other than to compare my life to others. This is unhealthy and I have to stop playing this comparison game. On a positive note I am proud of the content I’ve developed for this blog and for navigating and learning along the way on building a website.
Half-way through the year I’ll re-evaluate my progress but right now I feel pretty darn good! 2018 has been quite a big year for me and its only April. Having concrete achievable goals and more importantly developing good habits that have enabled me to meet these goals have been key. This is no way means that I haven’t struggled along the way – had bad days or sleepless nights – but making the deliberate choice to work on being a better and happier person has made all the difference this year.
